Growing Gardens Project
It wasn't that long ago that the area now housing our "Growing Garden"
was five foot high weeds - an uncared for, uninviting part of our site
very close to our entrance.
With funding, initially from the National
Lottery's SEED Programme and Awards for All, the Farm was able to employ
someone part-time to take on the challenge of providing a horticultural
project for the local community. Further funding from Children in
Need took the project into 2005 & 2006.
Through the hard work of the project
co-ordinators and all the volunteers who
assisted, the Farm has established a colourful, vibrant & interactive
Growing Garden on 3/4 of the available ground.
It was back-breaking work, partly because
the soil on our site is considered contaminated due to people in the
past using the ground as a dumping area. We therefore needed to
use raised, lined containers for crops that might be
harvested which meant wheel-barrowing tonnes of top soil into huge
growing containers.
