This Aviary has been restored
by volunteers from
The Earl Spencer Pub
Merton Road, Southfields
The sights, sounds and scents straight out of an Australian Desert scene.

Most of our birds, the Cockatiels, Budgies and Finches originate from Australia. We wanted to provide a natural habitat for the birds to explore and for visitors to enjoy.
Staff from the Earl of Spencer very kindly volunteered and fundraised nearly £300 to help!

After a good disinfecting from Staff, the team began by replacing the surface with  topsoil to help the plants to grow well.

The team painted the mesh with black, bird-friendly paint, to improve viewing, they resealed and smartened up the woodwork too.
They added the waterfall (with Thanks to Maidenhead Aquatics) and designed the pond and area to enable the birds to bathe and drink from. The team also planted a range of hardy, bird-safe plants to give the aviary a tropical feel.
The volunteers enjoyed a "totally different" day, a great opportunity for some teambuilding and to put
something back into their local community. We hope you enjoy the new design - the birds certainly do!
