Our Pigs
The Farm has two breeding sows (the name for
a female pig that has had a litter) that arrived in 2004. Their names, Rose and Lily,
were chosen by Aisling Towl, a visitor to the Farm.
Both sows have now had litters and shown the
local community what piglets look like and how they behave.
Lily and Rose are the same breed (Black
Berkshires) and usually get along together just fine, but they are
separated when they have piglets as they may well cause problems if all
of them lived together. Plus, with pigs having litters of up to 15
piglets, it would be a little crowded in one pig pen.
