The London Parade
1st January 2008
In lieu of a potential write up by one of
our great volunteers who participated in this event, please find loads
of pictures of Merton's entry in the London Parade. Hopefully, we
can update this page with more information soon.
The Float was in the form of a Carousel,
an incredible and imaginative creation conceived by Anne Donnaghy of
Merton & Morden Guild and made possible by Peter Wallder of the Colourhouse Theatre, Merton Abbey Mills
along with Hamish Duncan and Cllr Geraldine Stanford. Their efforts, with a few
other pairs of hands supporting them, were unbelievable.
None of it would have
been possible without the support of many individuals and organisations
throughout the community, including:
-
All those involved at the Mayor's
Office; their support throughout was vital
-
Stagecoach; who provided so many young
people to perform on the float on the day
-
The Collectors; who walked alongside the
float with buckets to collect donations and looked after the young
people involved on the day
-
Admiral scaffolding for their generous
assistance with building the float
-
The Volunteers from the chosen charities
who participated on the day.
-
SITA for providing the vehicle for the
float
-
Ivor Heller / AFC Wimbledon for printing
the wonderful, decorative banners
Merton's entry came a very creditable 5th in
the award-giving and receives a healthy sum to go towards the work of
the Mayor's chosen charities.
