History of Deen City Farm

It wasn't all that long ago - 1978 - that Deen City Farm was formed on Aberdeen Road, Mitcham. Judging by the number of misspellings we see, not many people seem to know that the "Deen" comes from the last four letters of Aberdeen!

In those days, the farm was run entirely by volunteers and the site had no heat, light or running water but the Farm survived and has gone from strength to strength. One former volunteer admitted that the ladies toilet was on the left of the muck heap and the gents was to the right!

In 1980, the Farm moved to Batsworth Road, again in Mitcham, just off Church Road. The final move took the Farm to Bunce's Meadow, part of the National Trust's Morden Hall Park Estate. This was a gradual process, hugely supported by London Borough of Merton, who continue to support the Farm year after year.
