Work Experience

The Farm offers Work Experience placements for those aged 14 and upwards in departments such as Livestock (the farm animals), the Stables and in the Garden.

Short-term Work Experience placements run from Monday or Tuesday through to Friday for one, or ideally, two weeks.

Long-term Work Experience placements are for one day a week (Tuesday to Friday) for 3 months and coincide with school terms. These are more suited to young people interested in vocational work who may benefit from some education outside of the classroom environment. We encourage applications to be made through schools or other referral organisations.

The summer term can get booked up, so please apply as early as possible or ring to make sure there is a place before applying.

To reserve a work experience placement you should first contact us to establish whether or not there is a space.  If your dates are available you will then be asked to complete an application form to secure your placement.

You will be expected to attend an interview before you start.  The interview gives you a chance to see the Farm and to learn more about what the role involves.  It also gives us the opportunity to find out a little more about you and decide whether you are a suitable candidate. We are not interested in those who don't show a genuine interest in outdoor work!  Deen City Farm is not an easy option!

Should the interview be successful, we will confirm your placement on that day.

PLEASE NOTE:
We do not take internships or offer international work experience placements, similarly we can not offer accomodation with placements.  We rarely accept placements during school holiday periods as we are unable to provide much support. During these times, we have many younger children on activity weeks and so anyone placed is expected to enjoy working alongside these children.
